The emotional weight of female hair loss is hard to bear no matter what the cause is. But there's one condition we frequently see in our Solihull salon that is particularly difficult to handle, and that's Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia.

Most female hair loss presents in the form of thinning or bald spots. That’s not the case for FFA. FFA begins with inflammation at the front or sides of the hairline, causing a receding effect that gradually moves further back.

The hardest thing about FFA

FFA varies in its severity. For some, the condition burns itself out early on leaving them with only a small amount of exposed hairline; in extreme cases, the whole front half of the head is affected.

There is a lot we don't know about this condition: it has only been medically recognised for about 30 years, and so research is still sparse. We do know that treatments like steroids can slow down the progression of the disease, so if you're experiencing symptoms of FFA, you should see your doctor.

Sadly, like many autoimmune conditions, FFA is on the rise, meaning more women are suffering its effects.

An example of the transformations we achieve for our lovely clients!

Disguising the effects of FFA

There is no cure for Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia. Once the hairline has receded, it is irreversible. The only thing that can be done is to disguise its effects by using either a wig or a hair system like ours.

For many women wigs are not a good solution, simply because they are removed at night so the psychological impact remains. Our Intralace Systems™ are worn continuously and our clients say this helps them rebuild their confidence and get their old lives back.

This form of the Intralace incorporates a Natural Hair Line Parting and Sides. It can normally be integrated into your hair, but if the hair loss is extensive the Freewear System™ may be a better solution. In most cases, we can use medical-grade tape to hold the system in place. No matter what system is used, or how it is secured, the Intralace looks natural and has helped us disguise FFA in women across the country; including the Midlands.

Unlike traditional wigs, the Intralace can be worn 24/7. You don’t have to take it off to sleep or to swim, and you can wash it as you would your natural hair. This allows our clients to reconnect with their femininity – especially when coming for periodic maintenance at our luxurious salons, recreating the typical hairdresser experience most of us take for granted.
