In the simplest term, telogen effluvium is when you experience more hair loss than normal. We each shed a certain amount of hair on a daily basis whilst we are sleeping, when we are styling our hair and when we are in the shower, however this should only be a small amount.
Telogen effluvium is a form on alopecia and it is characterised by hair shedding. At first you may notice that your hair is looking considerably thinner than normal and that you are noticing more hair at the bottom of the shower or on your pillow at night.
This particular type of hair loss occurs when an individual experiences sudden or severe stress. The stress results in the hair follicles stopping any hair growth and in turn you experience thinning of the hair. The hair follicles are no longer producing hair because they are in their resting phase.
Thankfully telogen effluvium is a temporary form of hair loss and through ensuring that you have received the right treatment from your doctor, you should find that your hair returns. Unfortunately more women tend to experience telogen effluvium because they tend to go through more stressful and emotional traumas than men such as giving birth.
