Varieties of alopecia

We all know that men experience hair loss during their lifetime, some earlier than others but it is really common to see men with thinning hair or bald patches and we often don’t really think anything of it. However when you see a woman who is experiencing hair loss or thinning hair, it isn’t a common sight. But it might surprise you to hear that women can lose their hair during any time in their life and for a variety of different reasons.

You might have heard of a hair loss condition called alopecia. A wide range of people experience alopecia and it can be triggered by a variety of different factors but the most common cause of alopecia is stress. If you are putting yourself through a lot of stress or you have been through a traumatic experience recently, your hair follicles can react to the stress that you are experiencing and as a result, you could lose some or all of your hair.

There are different kinds of alopecia with some causing only patches of hair loss, whereas others are more severe and result in complete hair loss. In order to find out what kind of alopecia you have, you will need to get medical advice.
