You might think that the hair on your hair has been there for many years but in actual fact your hair grows in cycles and as one follicle goes into hibernation, another appears to take its place. This is why it is so difficult to notice.
The normal cycle for hair growth lasts between two and three years. Within that time period, your hair grows at approximately 1 centimetre per month, although this may differ between individuals. According to scientists, it is believed that only 90% of the hair follicles that we have on our head are producing hair at any one time and the remaining 10% is resting.
We all shed hair during the course of the day and you might notice that hair comes out when you wash it or there is hair on your pillow when you get up in the morning, this is perfectly normal. However, if you start to experience a large amount of hair loss, then you might want to think about going to see your doctor to get some treatment to ensure that your hair returns. It isn’t something to worry about necessarily as the doctor may be able to treat it.
