Female pattern hair loss

Female pattern hair loss or androgenic alopecia is when women experience generally experience ‘diffused thinning’, generally throughout the top of the head or crown. Most women who suffer from this kind of hair loss experience it during their 20s and 30s however for some women they experience significant hair thinning when they get into their forties. The menopause can cause women to lose their hair as a result of the hormone change that they are going through and it has been estimated by scientists that by 50, 50% of all women will have experience some hair loss or hair thinning.

If you are suffering from hair loss but you are unsure whether it is female pattern hair loss it can be typically identified as overall thinning of the hair rather than specific patches of baldness like a man would get. The thinning of the hair occurs all over the head.

Female pattern hair loss is caused as a result of a hormone change which affects the hair follicle and eventually proceeds weaker hair and the follicle starts to shrink and will eventually stop producing hair. Once it gets past this stage it can be difficult to treat so it is worth going to see your doctor before your loss hair becomes serious.
